With Financial Incentives, Washington Offers Concessions to Government to Advance New Peace Initiative
Senior government sources told Asharq Bloomberg that the US administration has renewed its pressure and put forward a new proposal to the Sudanese government, including a phased plan to restore peace and halt military operations, paving the way for its signing by the parties concerned.
According to the sources, the first phase of the US proposal calls for the immediate declaration of a comprehensive 90-day humanitarian truce throughout Sudan, accompanied by limited military withdrawals from strategic positions in North Darfur and North Kordofan to demonstrate the parties’ seriousness.
The proposal calls for the establishment of a UN mechanism to monitor the truce, with active participation from the African Union and the League of Arab States, alongside direct engagement in expanded negotiations aimed at reaching a permanent ceasefire and finalizing security arrangements.
On the future political and military fronts, the proposal emphasizes maintaining a unified national military institution that would be accountable to a civilian government, while launching an inclusive, Sudanese-led civilian national dialogue to manage the transitional political process.
According to the US proposal, the process would culminate in the formation of a civilian transitional government tasked with overseeing structural reforms and administering general elections.
The initiative also includes strategic plans to achieve economic stability and establish an international fund dedicated to rebuilding what the war has destroyed in Sudan.
