Militia Detains Hundreds of Families, Prevents Displacement from Al-Fashir and Darfur Villages
Internally Displaced persons (IDPs) fleeing Dar Simiat in North Darfur said that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia prevented a number of families from leaving their villages and detained dozens of people who were on their way to Tawila locality in North Darfur.
IDPs who arrived in Tawila told Darfur24 that the militia began restricting displacement movements from Dar Simiat before detaining dozens of families in Al-Fashir who were heading to the Tawila area late last week.
Thuraya Musa, a displaced woman from eastern Al-Fashir, said the militia was preventing families from fleeing to Tawila.
She said families who recently reached Tawila had made their way through Khazan-Jadid and then to Tawila without passing through Al-Fashir, while others fled toward eastern Jebel Marra.
She confirmed that dozens of families, including her own, had been detained in Al-Fashir.
A displaced person revealed that hundreds of families remained trapped in Dar Simiat due to restrictions on displacement and the militia’s preventing civilians from leaving their villages, warning of deteriorating conditions for those stranded in Dar Simiat.
