Saudi Arabia Lodges Complaint Against RSF with UN Security Council
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has lodged a formal complaint with the United Nations Security Council, accusing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia of shelling humanitarian aid near the city of El-Obeid in mid-August.
Saudi Permanent Representative to the United Nations Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Wasil sent two identical letters on September 16 to the United Nations Secretary-General and the Security Council concerning what he described as a “serious attack targeting humanitarian aid provided by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief).”
The letter, obtained by Sudan Tribune, stated: “At 12 midnight on August 17, 2026, a truck loaded with aid provided by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre was targeted by a militia drone near the entrance to El-Obeid.”
He explained that the attack resulted in the burning and destruction of 1,150 food baskets, in addition to the trailer of the truck being burned, with no loss of life.
Al-Wasil noted that Saudi Arabia had received official confirmation from the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the circumstances of the attack and the RSF’s responsibility for targeting the relief supplies.
He said the relief supplies that were targeted were provided through the implementing partner, Al-Igtinam Organization for Human Development, as part of the Food Security Support Project in its third phase.
