The first supporter of the war in Sudan calls for an (armistice)

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has renewed its call for a humanitarian truce during the holy month of Ramadan. International reports by the United Nations and international news agencies document the UAE’s support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia with weapons, ammunition and money.

The UAE is considered, according to a report by Security Council experts, the first supporter of the continuation of the war in Sudan.

A statement published by the UAE’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, on its account on the X platform, said, “With the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, the UAE welcomes the calls of the members of the Security Council on February 26, 2025, for a humanitarian armistice in Sudan.”

The statement alleged that the UAE had called for a humanitarian truce during the holy month of Ramadan, a call that was confirmed by the African Union. The statement claimed that the UAE continues its work with African, regional and international partners to provide humanitarian aid and alleviate suffering by all available means.

The UAE urged the international community to respond to its call to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, allow unhindered access for humanitarian aid, and create space for dialogue that paves the way for a permanent ceasefire and a political process leading to the formation of a civilian-led government. It also affirmed its support for Sudan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and its steadfast solidarity with the Sudanese people.
