Intensive Talks in Moscow: Khartoum Officially Requests Russia’s Participation in Sudan’s Reconstruction

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid met on Wednesday with Ivan Kosh, Director-General for International Cooperation at Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and head of the Russian side of the Joint Ministerial Committee, at the ministry’s headquarters in Moscow.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation between Sudan and Russia in light of the outcomes of the Eighth Session of the Joint Ministerial Committee, held in Moscow in September 2025, which covered the sectors of industry, infrastructure, energy, ports, minerals, oil, digital transformation, smart cities and cybersecurity.

The Undersecretary affirmed Sudan’s aspiration for active participation by Russian companies in the country’s reconstruction phase and expressed hope that the Ninth Session of the Joint Ministerial Committee would be convened in Khartoum in the near future. He also renewed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s commitment to providing the necessary political support to implement the committee’s outcomes and translate them into projects that serve the interests of the two peoples.

For his part, Ivan Kosh commended the level of economic cooperation between the two countries and affirmed the Russian side’s readiness to hold the next session of the Joint Ministerial Committee in Khartoum and work to increase the volume of trade exchange in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two friendly countries.

In the same context, the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs met with Georgy Karasin, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Russian Federation Council, at the Council’s headquarters in Moscow. The two sides exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sudan and Russia and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various fields.
