Sudan’s Security and Defense Council Approves Response to Mediation Proposals on Peace
Sudan’s Security and Defense Council on Sunday reaffirmed its support for initiatives aimed at achieving peace, emphasizing its positive engagement with the mediation paper presented by the facilitating countries regarding the country’s peace process.
The Council held its regular meeting under the chairmanship of President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. During the meeting, members reviewed the mediators’ proposal and expressed their appreciation for the continued efforts to help resolve the conflict.
As the sole authority responsible for matters of war, peace, and negotiations, the Council announced that it had finalized a unified response to the mediation proposal, reaffirming its firm commitment to the peace process.
According to the Council’s statement, the Sudanese government remains fully open to any initiative that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people, provided it preserves the country’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The Council also dismissed as inaccurate the leaked information and reports circulating on social media regarding the mediation file, urging all parties to refrain from disseminating information that could undermine national security or hinder ongoing peace efforts.
The statement comes after the disclosure of a U.S. proposal outlining five key pillars for resolving the Sudanese crisis. The initiative recently featured a direct meeting in Cairo between TSC Member General Shams-Eddin Kabashi and the U.S. Special Envoy.
