RSF Injects Large New Quantities of Counterfeit Currency into Darfur Markets
Commercial sources in the Darfur region have revealed that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have introduced large quantities of newly counterfeited Sudanese banknotes, including the 500- and 1,000-pound denominations, into local markets. The move has raised economic concerns over its potential impact on already weakened purchasing power.
A trader in the region said the counterfeit notes, which have been circulating widely in recent days, show clear signs of poor manufacturing quality. He noted that they were printed on lightweight paper, making the forgery easily detectable by those handling them.
The source added that the counterfeit currency appears to be newly printed but carries the signature of former Central Bank of Sudan Governor Hussein Yahya Jankoul.
