Sudan’s Quintet Invites Political Forces to Crucial Negotiations in Ethiopia
Political sources have revealed that the Sudan-focused Quintet Mechanism plans to hold a meeting in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, later this July, with the participation of several Sudanese political forces, to discuss developments in the war and the latest political situation in the country.
The sources told Asharq that the meeting is part of efforts led by the mechanism to advance initiatives aimed at ending the conflict by listening to the views of Sudanese political groups, exploring ways to reach a ceasefire, and creating conditions for the resumption of the political process.
They added that invitations have been extended to Taqaddum (the Hamdok-led alliance), the National Forces Coordination, the Popular Congress Party, the Democratic Bloc, as well as the Umma Party led by Mubarak Al-Fadil.
The Quintet Committee — comprising the United Nations, African Union, European Union, Arab League, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) — reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating an inclusive dialogue among Sudanese stakeholders.
The sources said the meeting aims to discuss prospects for reaching a shared vision on the future of the political process and explore mechanisms to support peace efforts in a way that contributes to ending the war.
