Sudan’s Largest Prison Enters Service

 

Operation has officially resumed at Al-Huda Correctional City, west of Omdurman, following the appointment of Maj. Gen. (Police) Moatasim Abdel-Fattah as director of the city. The step, which marks the beginning of the phase of resuming reform and institutional work in the country.

 

In a statement to the police press office, Maj. Gen. Moatasim explained that all maintenance and rehabilitation work undertaken at the city during the recent period has been successfully completed. He emphasized that the city is now fully prepared to receive inmates, in accordance with the latest international standards adopted in the field of penal and correctional institutions.

 

Al-Huda Correctional City is one of the largest correctional facilities in Sudan. It was designed with a sophisticated architectural style that adheres to the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Inmates.

 

 

The city includes integrated facilities with a capacity of more than 6,000 inmates, in addition to large agricultural areas aimed at supporting training, production, and reform programs. This development came within the framework of a comprehensive plan adopted by the Directorate of the Prison Forces to improve the correctional work environment and achieve standards of justice and social reform.
