Sudan, Egypt, Eritrea and Somalia Leaders Hold Emergency Summit
The Egyptian city of Alamein is hosting an emergency four-way summit today, Sunday, bringing together President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council Lieutenant General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to discuss regional developments and issues of security, stability, and partnership in the region.
The summit comes as part of regular consultations among the leaders of the countries of the region on issues related to the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Horn of Africa, and Nile Basin, as well as joint coordination on growing security and political challenges.
Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki had arrived in Cairo at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi to participate in the summit. He is expected to discuss with President Al-Sisi ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand prospects for cooperation between the two countries.
