Sudan calls on Security Council to impose deterrent sanctions on UAE and RSF militia

Sudan has called on the UN Security Council to impose deterrent sanctions on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and its regional sponsor—a reference to the UAE—in order to lift the siege on El-Fashir. Sudan welcomed the council’s statement condemning the militia’s attacks on internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps around the city, which has been under siege since May of last year.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Sudan’s welcome of the UN Security Council statement regarding the attack on El-Fashir and IDP camps by the RSF militia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the council expressed “deep concern” over the escalating violence in Darfur and called for the militia and all perpetrators of crimes against civilians to be held accountable.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the Security Council to take more effective measures against the militia and its regional sponsor.

The statement stated that the militia responded to the Security Council’s demands by escalating its
attacks on IDP camps.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to take steps to prevent impunity for those responsible for the violations.
