Sisi Tells Guterres Sudan’s Security and Unity Are a “Red Line” for Egypt
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Saturday on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. They discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations, as well as a number of regional issues, foremost among them developments in the Gaza Strip and the Sudan crisis.
The two sides also addressed the situation in Sudan, with Al-Sisi stressing that Sudan’s security, unity and sovereignty constitute a “red line” for Egypt, amid the ongoing conflict and its humanitarian and security repercussions for the region.
