Eritrea Accuses Ethiopia of Hosting and Supporting RSF

Eritrea on Saturday accused neighboring Ethiopia of destabilizing the region, in the latest round of a war of words between the two Horn of Africa neighbors.

In a statement issued by the Eritrean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Asmara accused the ruling Prosperity Party, led by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, of “actively destabilizing the Horn of Africa.”

The statement said: “While Eritrea has maintained strict strategic patience, Addis Ababa has engaged in an unrelenting escalation of its war rhetoric for more than three years, disregarding international treaties and actively hosting, training and funding sectarian destabilizing proxy groups with an explicit regime-change agenda against Eritrea.”

Eritrea, which has been ruled with an iron fist by President Isaias Afwerki since independence, also accused Addis Ababa of hosting, supporting and encouraging the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, a paramilitary group that has been waging a devastating civil war against the Sudanese Army since 2023.
