Rumors of Attacks Cause Panic South of Omdurman, Security Authorities Reassure Citizens

Khartoum – Sudanese Echoes

Areas south of Omdurman witnessed panic among residents on Monday morning following rumors of attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in the area.

The rumors coincided with the evacuation of some schools and a heavy deployment of regular forces, along with intermittent sounds of gunfire.

A senior official in Khartoum State told Al-Sudani newspaper that there was “no real threat,” confirming that the situation was under full control.

The official explained that the Committee for Security Control and Enforcement of State Authority — a body stemming from the Higher Committee for Preparing the Environment for Citizens’ Return to Khartoum, chaired by Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Assistant to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jabir — carried out a cordon security operation today in the areas of Al-Salha and southern Khartoum, based on information about potential security threats.

He added that these regular operations by the Committee aim to curb criminal activities, combat illegal settlements and unauthorized foreign presence, remove burnt vehicles, recover looted property, and arrest criminals, including those cooperating with militias or impersonating members of the regular forces.

Regarding the evacuation of schools, the official said the measure was taken as a precaution to ensure the safety of students, particularly given the possibility of crossfire or criminals taking shelter in school buildings.

He concluded: “There is no reason for concern — on the contrary, there is reason for reassurance.

The security forces are performing their duties with high vigilance in response to citizens’ demands to strengthen security, eliminate theft and looting, and contain lawless elements.”
