Kekal”, Most Prominent RSF Commander in Al-Gezira, Gives up to the Army
Sudanese press sources revealed that Abu Agla Mohamed Ahmed Kekal, one of the most prominent commanders of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Al-Gezira State, surrendered himself with his forces and vehicles to the commander of the Sudanese Army in Al-Butana Area, Brigadier General Ahmed Sha’eddin.
Kekal – who leads the “Sudan Shield” Forces- had announced in early August last year his support and bias for the Rapid Support Forces that have been fighting against the Sudanese army since mid-April last year.
Kekal announced, in a video at the time, his support for the Rapid Support Forces “to support the margin and fight the remnants of the former regime,” as he said, which raised questions about the size of his force, its capabilities, and its contribution to tipping the balance in favor of the “Rapid Support Forces” on the ground.
The first appearance of the commander of the “Sudan Shield” was in mid-December 2022, when he organized a military parade for his forces in the “Al-Jabal Al-Ghur” area in “Al-Butana Plain” (central Sudan).
At the time, the Sudan Shield displayed a force estimated at 35,000 soldiers, and said that it had thousands of supporters in several areas of Sudan, but its leaders, who appeared at the time in military uniform, declared that they were not at enmity with anyone.
