Joint Force Thwarts an attempt to smuggle weapons and equipment to RSF militia

The Sudan Liberation Army Movement (SLAM), led by Minni Arko Minawi, announced on Thursday that the joint force in Darfur was able to thwart an attempt to smuggle weapons and military equipment to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, after seizing a military supply convoy coming from Chad.
SLAM explained that the RSF militia is exploiting the vast desert area that connects Sudan with Chad and Libya to transport military equipment to Darfur region, where it is distributed to the rest of the various operational fronts.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is facing accusations of providing military supplies to the RSF militia, as this support is transported via the “Umm Jaras” airport in Chad, and from there it is smuggled into Sudanese territory.
A statement issued by SLAM, obtained by “Sudan Tribune”, stated that “within the framework of the ongoing efforts of the joint force to secure Sudan’s borders and protect its territories from smuggling and terrorism attempts, your joint forces in the desert axis, on the Sudanese-Libyan-Chadian border, were able to thwart an attempt to smuggle large weapons that were on their way to the terrorist RSF Militia.”
According to the statement, since last September, forces affiliated with armed movements coming from Libya and Al-Dabba area in the Northern State have been deployed in the desert of North Darfur, where they fought fierce battles with the insurgent RSF militia in the town of “Mado” in the Malha Locality.
The statement added that the operation was carried out after a careful and continuous field sweep by the joint forces, where a large shipment of advanced weapons was seized, which was on its way into the country.
The armed movements showed in video recordings a number of combat vehicles, in addition to ammunition boxes and “Kornet” cannons, an anti-tank weapon used by the rebel RSF militia in battles.
The videos also showed documents, including a Colombian military passport with an exit visa from Al Maktoum International Airport last October, along with a driver’s license and other documents.
