Blue Nile Governor Survives Assassination Attempt
Al-Damazin, (Sudanese Echoes) – The city of Al-Damazin, capital of Blue Nile Region, came under attack early Saturday by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) using attack drones, some of which targeted the residence of the region’s governor.
Blue Nile Region Governor Ahmed Al-Omda Badi said in a post on his Facebook account that the RSF targeted his residence and civilian sites in Al-Damazin with suicide drones on Saturday morning.
The governor confirmed that the army’s air defense forces intercepted the attack carried out by the RSF militia using suicide drones.
He stressed that the attack “will only make us stronger, more steadfast, and more determined,” and would not deter them from continuing the struggle and defending the homeland, or from working to clear every inch of Sudanese territory of rebellion and aggression.
The governor called on all residents of Blue Nile Region to remain united and cohesive and stand together, saying the current stage requires prioritizing the national interest, avoiding division and discord, and strengthening the spirit of solidarity and responsibility to protect the region and its gains.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Sudan Tribune, several powerful explosions were heard across the city before ground defenses engaged the suicide drones.
The witnesses added that the drones attempted to target several areas in Al-Damazin, but the nature of the targets could not be determined. The army had not issued a comment on the attack at the time of publication.
