At least 6 killed in deadly border clashes between South Sudan and Uganda

At least six people were killed in clashes between South Sudanese and Ugandan forces near the border between the two historic allies.

South Sudanese officials reported that members of the two armies exchanged fire on Monday in Kajo Keji County, killing five South Sudanese soldiers, according to Reuters.

Felix Kulayigye, a Ugandan military spokesman, explained that soldiers from the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SPDF) entered Uganda’s West Nile Region and refused to leave, sparking an exchange of fire that left at least one Ugandan soldier dead.

Kajo Keji County issued a statement confirming that five South Sudanese soldiers were killed in a surprise attack by Ugandan forces, supported by tanks and artillery.

The South Sudanese military confirmed the clash but did not specify the number of casualties.
