Al-Burhan Intervenes to Contain Disagreements Between Armed Movements and Prime Minister

President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, intervened in the escalating crisis between Prime Minister Kamil Idris and the armed movements, the signatories of the Juba Peace Agreement, and succeeded in defusing the crisis, which threatens to collapse the existing political consensus, according to sources.

The Juba Peace Agreement granted the commanders of the armed movements a 25% share of the executive government, in addition to representation in the Transitional Sovereignty Council, quotas in state governments, and the position of governor of Darfur Region.

According to reports, Al-Burhan held a meeting in the past few hours with several movement Commanders, including the Head of the Justice and Equality Movement, Gebreil Ibrahim, and pledged to work to arrange a direct meeting with the Prime Minister to bring views closer and defuse tensions.

Reports circulated on social media that the armed movements intended to suspend their participation in Kamil Idris’s government.

A previous meeting convened by the Prime Minister and attended by several movement commanders and political forces witnessed the conspicuous absence of the Head of the Justice and Equality Movement, while the Head of the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Arko Minawi, withdrew in protest at what he described as the clear marginalization of the Darfur track.
