Blue Nile Governor Survives Assassination Attempt

Al-Damazin, (Sudanese Echoes) – The city of Al-Damazin, capital of ‎Blue Nile Region, came under attack early Saturday by the Rapid ‎Support Forces (RSF) using attack drones, some of which targeted the ‎residence of the region’s governor.‎

Blue Nile Region Governor Ahmed Al-Omda Badi said in a post on his ‎Facebook account that the RSF targeted his residence and civilian sites ‎in Al-Damazin with suicide drones on Saturday morning.‎

The governor confirmed that the army’s air defense forces intercepted ‎the attack carried out by the RSF militia using suicide drones.‎

He stressed that the attack “will only make us stronger, more ‎steadfast, and more determined,” and would not deter them from ‎continuing the struggle and defending the homeland, or from working ‎to clear every inch of Sudanese territory of rebellion and aggression.‎

The governor called on all residents of Blue Nile Region to remain ‎united and cohesive and stand together, saying the current stage ‎requires prioritizing the national interest, avoiding division and ‎discord, and strengthening the spirit of solidarity and responsibility to ‎protect the region and its gains.‎

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Sudan Tribune, several ‎powerful explosions were heard across the city before ground ‎defenses engaged the suicide drones.‎

The witnesses added that the drones attempted to target several areas ‎in Al-Damazin, but the nature of the targets could not be determined. ‎The army had not issued a comment on the attack at the time of ‎publication.‎
