Sudan and Türkiye Hold Military Talks in Ankara
Member of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Army Chief of Staff General Yasser Al-Atta held military talks with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara on Monday, before meeting with the Turkish Defense Minister.
According to Anadolu Agency, Al-Atta discussed military relations between Sudan and Türkiye with Turkish Chief of Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu. The talks were preceded by an official welcoming ceremony at the headquarters of the Turkish General Staff, featuring the playing of the national anthems and a military salute by Al-Atta at the ceremonial platform.
The Turkish Defense Ministry said in a post on Türkiye’s İnSosyal platform that Defense Minister Yaşar Güler received Al-Atta in Ankara. Bayraktaroğlu also attended the meeting. The ministry said Al-Atta had arrived in Ankara at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart.
The Sudanese Armed Forces did not issue a statement on the visit or its outcome.
Türkiye has supplied Sudan with military equipment during the ongoing conflict, including Bayraktar and Akıncı drones, which have featured prominently in Sudanese military operations.
The visit comes amid rapidly developing relations between Khartoum and Ankara, with the two countries having signed memoranda of understanding and agreements in recent years covering trade, investment, transport, agriculture and reconstruction.
The military talks are expected to add another dimension to the expanding bilateral relationship, particularly in the areas of defense cooperation, military coordination and strategic partnership.
