12 Sudanese Killed in Russian Attack
Local sources reported that a patrol belonging to Russian forces in the Central African Republic carried out an armed attack on a weekly market in the border town of “Kabo,” adjacent to Sudan, on Friday, resulting in the killing of 12 Sudanese nationals and the injury of five others.
According to Darfur24, the attack is the first of its kind in the area, amid rising tensions along the border strip.
According to eyewitness accounts, a group of Sudanese nomadic cattle herders were carrying weapons inside the market. Russian forces demanded that they hand over the weapons, but they refused, prompting the force to open fire on them directly. One of the victims’ relatives, Ahmed al-Tijani, confirmed that the Russian forces used vehicles to transport soldiers as well as combat vehicles, in addition to a surveillance drone that accompanied the force during the attack.
Russian Wagner forces deployed at gold mines across African territories continue to conduct intensive patrols along the border between Sudan and the Central African Republic, launching repeated attacks on gatherings of Sudanese nomads inside African territory, resulting in dozens of deaths in recent months.
