United Nations: Khartoum Airport a “Red Line

The United Nations expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in drone attacks across several Sudanese states, warning that they continue to endanger civilians and critical infrastructure

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric reported that a drone was intercepted over Khartoum International Airport, leading to flight cancellations, and stressed the airport’s critical role in delivering humanitarian aid.

He noted that worsening security conditions are driving displacement, with over 2,600 people displaced in North Kordofan and about 1,000 in South Kordofan within one week, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sudan is estimated at around 9 million, with approximately 4.5 million having fled to neighboring countries since the conflict began.

The UN renewed its call for all parties to respect international humanitarian law, protect civilians, and ensure unimpeded access for humanitarian assistance.
