Sudanese Army Conducts Airstrikes on Rapid Support Forces Positions near Kadugli

Sudanese military aircraft carried out airstrikes on positions held by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in the Brono area of South Kordofan State, killing and wounding several fighters, military sources said.

Sources told Al-Tara Sudan that warplanes launched intense strikes earlier today on RSF concentrations in Brono, an area close to Kadugli, the state capital. The strikes reportedly killed at least 15 RSF members and injured others, with the sources confirming the death of the commander of Group 145, known as “Alyan,” in one of the raids.

According to the sources, the airstrikes were aimed at degrading the militia’s hard power following the army’s withdrawal from Brono.

The RSF announced on Friday that it had taken control of Brono, located about 30 kilometers west of Kadugli in South Kordofan. The army is seeking, through its operations in the state, to lift the siege on Kadugli and Dilling—the two largest cities in South Kordofan—which has persisted for more than two years. In contrast, the RSF is attempting to seize the two cities and expand deeper into the state to secure full control, following its takeover of West Kordofan in recent days.

Kadugli and Dilling have recently come under sustained artillery fire by RSF forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, employing heavy artillery and drones. The latest attack involved a drone strike on a United Nations compound in Kadugli, killing six Bangladeshi peacekeepers and wounding others.
