European Union: Rapid Support Forces Committed War Crime in Kalogi
The European Union strongly condemned the attack on Kalogi city in South Kordofan, carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which resulted in dozens of casualties, most of them children.
The EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Haja Lahbib stated that the events in Kalogi “constitute a clear war crime,” stressing that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure is strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law.
Lahbib added that “the excessive violence against the population requires immediate accountability,” urging all conflict parties to respect their legal obligations and protect civilians.
The Director of Kalogi Locality told Al Jazeera that the death toll from the RSF bombardment has risen to 80, including 46 children, amid ongoing clashes in the Kordofan states and UN warnings of a catastrophic deterioration in the humanitarian situation.
At the onset of the attack, South Kordofan state had announced the death of 8 people, including 6 children and a teacher, in shelling that targeted a kindergarten and a rural hospital, before the toll increased as bombardments continued.
