Sudan Plans to Build a New International Airport in Khartoum
The Sudanese government plans to construct a new international airport in the capital, Khartoum, despite the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia since April 2023.
Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris met at Istanbul Airport with Anver Ciyan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Turkish airport construction company Suma, to discuss the project for a new airport in Khartoum built to the latest international standards.
Suma expressed full readiness to contribute to the project, drawing on its experience in implementing global airport projects, according to the Sudanese news site Al-Mashhad. The company also announced plans to send a technical team to Sudan soon to collect necessary data and prepare a comprehensive feasibility study for the new airport.
The Sudanese government stated that the project aims to modernize infrastructure and strengthen the aviation sector, in line with national development goals and Sudan’s aspiration to become a regional hub for transport and logistics services.
