Sudanese Businessmen Call for Sudanese Banks to Operate from Egypt

Cairo – Nahid Oshi

The Chairman of the Sudanese Businessmen and Employers Federation, Muawia Al-Berbair, called for a flexible policy toward the Sudanese private sector, urging that Sudanese banks be allowed to operate from within Egypt.

During a workshop in Cairo, he urged Egyptian authorities to permit Sudanese businessmen to use their properties in Egypt as collateral.

Al-Berbair explained that attracting more investment between Egypt and Sudan requires easing restrictions on the movement of businessmen and exempting them from security permits.

He emphasized that establishing joint industrial zones would create job opportunities for both Egyptians and Sudanese.

He also noted that any surplus in Egypt represents a gap in Sudan, and any surplus in Sudan represents a gap in Egypt, highlighting the complementarity of resources between the two countries.

Al-Berbair pointed out that bilateral trade between Egypt and Sudan could increase from 1% to 10%, reaching a value of $10 billion.

He stressed the importance of addressing obstacles that hinder achieving economic integration between Egypt and Sudan.
