With a capacity of 90,000 barrels a day, Juba resumes oil production and exports
South Sudan’s oil Minister, Put Kang Chol, said Tuesday that his country will resume oil production in areas “three and seven” on Wednesday, with an initial production of 90,000 barrels per day.
South Sudan’s economy has been under pressure in recent years due to sectarian violence, and its important crude oil export revenues have been damaged after the disruption of export traffic due to the war in Sudan.
Sudan lifted the force majeure, which lasted for about a year, on the transfer of crude oil from South Sudan to a port on the Red Sea after security conditions improved.
Chol said the government had reached an agreement with Petronas to find a new partner to replace the Malaysian producer.
