WhatsApp Voice and Video Calling to be Restricted in Sudan

The Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority (TPRA) announced the restriction of WhatsApp voice and video calling services in Sudan, effective next Friday.

A TPRA statement, (Sudanese Echoes) obtained, stated that it will restrict WhatsApp voice and video calling services across Sudan, effective next Friday, July 25, as a precautionary measure against security threats, to protect national security and the country’s higher interests.

The statement confirmed that other app services, such as text messaging and group sharing, are available without restrictions.

The TPRA apologized to subscribers for any inconvenience this restriction may cause and urged them to prioritize the national interest over personal interests.
