New York Hotel Costs Trigger Crisis Within Hamdok’s Coalition

Sharp disagreements have erupted within former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok’s Sumoud Alliance over accommodation costs in New York.

Informed sources told Al-Sudani that disagreements broke out between Hamdok and some members of the delegation participating in events on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings, amid differences over accommodation and transportation arrangements and the rising hotel bill.

The crisis escalated after some members of the delegation objected to having their accommodation booked at lower-rated hotels without dedicated transportation being provided for them within the city. They said they had asked only for equal treatment in accommodation with Hamdok himself, who stayed at a five-star hotel.

In response to the members’ objections, Hamdok claimed that he had paid for his accommodation and travel expenses in New York from his own money, without imposing any costs on the delegation’s or the alliance’s budget.
