UN: Rapid Support Forces Recruit Fighters in Central African Republic

A UN official said that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) recruit fighters within the Central African Republic, while their presence has increased in the Abyei area.

The UN Assistant Secretary-General for Africa, Ms. Martha Pobee, briefed the UN Security Council on the organization’s efforts to support Sudan on its path to peace and stability.

Ms. Pobee stated that “the militia is conducting recruitment operations in northeastern Central African Republic.”

She stated that the militia’s increased presence in the Abyei area has exacerbated the already fragile situation, considering the clashes in the border triangle a dangerous escalation.

She stressed that the repercussions of the conflict in Sudan extend beyond its borders.
