The army carries out the second leap of operations in Khartoum
The fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) was renewed in the capital, Khartoum on Friday, while the fighting fronts were active in the Khartoum Refinery and Al-Faw axis in Al-Gadarif “eastern Sudan” and El-Fashir in North Darfur.
For the second day, clashes took place between the two fighting parties in Al-Mogran area, west of central Khartoum, after more violent clashes that took place yesterday, Thursday, during which the army succeeded in crossing the White Nile and Al-Fiteihab bridges from Omdurman to Khartoum and positioned itself at the entrances to the bridges from the Khartoum side.
On Friday morning, the army tried to advance towards Al-Mogran area, which the RSF militia are desperately defending, relying on snipers in the high-rise buildings in the area.
The army’s warplanes participated in the attack by carrying out raids targeting the RSF sites in central Khartoum, whereas the army’s heavy artillery bombed its positions in Khartoum.
According to military sources who spoke to “Sudan Tribune”, the army was able, through the ground operation it launched yesterday morning, Thursday, to destroy the Rapid Support Forces’ sniper sites in the Petrodar building and the Coral Hotel in Al-Mogran area.
On the axis of the Halfaya Bridge linking North Omdurman and Khartoum Bahri, violent confrontation broke up early Friday morning.
The army from its positions in Omdurman and the Rapid Support Forces from Khartoum Bahri exchanged artillery shelling, which was concentrated in the area surrounding the eastern and western entrances of Halfaya Bridge.
In the far north of Khartoum Bahri, warplanes stroke the Rapid Support Forces positions in the Khartoum Oil Refinery, about 70 kilometers north of the Sudanese capital.
Plumes of smoke were seen rising densely from the vicinity of the Khartoum Refinery, which was repeatedly bombed by the army, as the Rapid Support Forces have controlled the area since the outbreak of the war in mid-April last year.
