Sudan’s TSC: Khartoum is Ready to Receive Citizens
Energy Minister Moatasim Ibrahim revealed on Saturday losses of more than $1.7 billion in the transmission, distribution, and power stations sectors in Khartoum State.
The Committee for Preparing the Environment for the Return of Citizens to Khartoum, headed by Ibrahim Jabir, Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Assistant Commander of the Army, held its second meeting to discuss the electricity, drinking water, and health conditions.
Khartoum government media said in a statement that “the Minister of Energy reviewed the losses incurred by the distribution, transmission, and transformer stations sectors, estimated at more than $1.7 billion.”
The statement indicated that the minister addressed efforts to repair transformer stations and transmission lines, anticipating that electricity will soon be restored to large parts of Khartoum, Khartoum North, and East Nile, with water stations, hospitals, and residential neighborhoods to be fully restored within this month.
The militia carried out deliberate sabotage and widespread ransacking of power stations during its control of Khartoum, before the army recaptured them. It also launched drone strikes on several stations in Omdurman.
The statement explained that the meeting reviewed the Khartoum government’s efforts to rehabilitate the Bahri, Al-Mugran, Soba, Jebel Awliya, Beit Al-Mal, and North Bahri water stations.
It reported that the Soba water station has returned to 100% operation, while the remaining stations have resumed operation at varying levels, with the expectation that they will reach full capacity within days.
In this context, Ibrahim Jabir, stated, during the launch of the vector control campaign, that Khartoum was now ready to receive citizens and provide them with services.
He confirmed the availability of treatment and preventive services in the localities of Khartoum State. He also pledged to pay the arrears of salaries of state Ministry of Health employees in coordination with the Ministry of Finance.
