Sudan’s Prime Minister: Khartoum Rehabilitation Will Be Completed Within 6 Months
Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris confirmed that the entire city of Khartoum will be fully rehabilitated within six months.
In statements to Al Arabiya/Al Hadath, Idris added that the government will begin work gradually over the coming months.
It is worth mentioning that Idris and an accompanying delegation arrived in the capital, Khartoum, on Friday, in a first visit since his appointment nearly two months ago.
The visit aimed to assess the situation in the capital, which is suffering from widespread infrastructure deterioration as it was the scene of fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
The Prime Minister previously stated that the government would gradually return to Khartoum after the army announced it had regained full control of the capital.
However, this return faces a number of impediments, the top of which is the widespread devastation in the city downtown, where most government buildings and ministries are located. These buildings were burned and vandalized during the fighting.
On Friday, President of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, issued a decision on evacuation of the capital, Khartoum, of military formations within two weeks.
