Sudanese Intelligence Service Dismantles Regional Drug Smuggling Network

The Organized Crime Control Department of the General Intelligence Service has carried out a special security operation targeting a criminal network involved in smuggling the drug shasmandi from a neighboring country into Sudan.
The operation, which was carried out near the city of Kassala, resulted in the seizure of 154 kilograms of shasmandi, in addition to a pickup car used in the smuggling operations. Members of the network were arrested.
The total value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at more than 175 million Sudanese pounds (approximately $70,000).
The source added that the competent authorities have taken all legal measures against the defendants, in preparation for bringing them to justice.
This operation is an extension of a series of special operations carried out by the Intelligence Service over the past weeks, targeting drug smuggling and trafficking networks across the country, as part of a comprehensive national strategy to protect society from the scourge of drugs and dry up their sources.
