SAF responds to UAE’s accusations, describing the allegations of arms smuggling to the army via UAE as “laughable and strange.”

Khartoum announced on Wednesday its rejection of Abu Dhabi’s announcement that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of weapons and ammunition, which it said were illegally intended for the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
The statement described the allegations as “laughable and strange.”
The SAF spokesman Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah confirmed, in statements to the Russian Sputnik News Agency, that the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) accusations are baseless, describing them as “laughable and strange.”
He said, “Sudan is a sovereign state and has the right to obtain weapons from any party it deems appropriate and to deal with any party it considers appropriate, just like any other country in the world.”
The UAE claimed to have thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 5 million of caliber 7.62×54.7mm ammunition, the “Granov” type, hidden inside a private plane that landed at one of the country’s airports. The plane was officially declared to be carrying a shipment of medical supplies.
The UAE Public Prosecution claimed to have arrested several suspects in the case at a hotel, in addition to sums of money linked to the deal, reinforcing suspicions about the involvement of a cell in illicit arms trafficking.
