RSF Drones Bomb Strategic Fuel Depots in Central Sudan
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia bombed strategic fuel depots east of Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Gezira State in central Sudan, with drones on Sunday.
According to security sources who spoke to Sudan Tribune, the “Om Elaila” depots, located near Abu Haraz in the East Al-Gezira locality, about 20 kilometers northeast of Wad Madani, were targeted by the militia’s attack drones in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Witnesses in nearby villages heard several powerful explosions before seeing thick columns of smoke rising from the fuel tanks at Om Elaila.
The Om Elaila depots are among Sudan’s most important facilities for storing petroleum products and strategic fuel reserves.
The depots also serve as a major storage and distribution center for fuel, including gasoline and diesel, in Al-Gezira State and surrounding areas.
The facility was previously sabotaged through the destruction of control rooms and main supply lines and the looting of equipment when the Rapid Support Forces took control of Wad Madani in December 2023.
Meanwhile, residents in Wad Al-Bor Al-Khawalda area found three drones equipped with warheads in fields in the Gezira Scheme.
The Gezira Conference said in a statement that three drones had crashed in the village of “Wad Al-Bor Al-Khawalda,” in “Wad Raia” administrative unit, in an incident that underscores the expanding scope of attacks targeting civilian areas in Al-Gezira State and endangers the lives and property of civilians.
