Power outage after RSF militia hits Merowe power station with drones

The Sudan Electricity Company’s Media Coordination Council announced that Merowe power station was targeted by drones at dawn on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
The council explained, in a statement, that the attack damaged the transformer supplying the Northern State, causing a power outage.
The statement indicated that this repeated targeting of power stations negatively impacts citizens’ services, in addition to the direct impact on the Northern State. It added, “This incident is expected to lead to disruptions in the electricity grid, which could negatively impact electricity supplies in several states.”
The Media Coordination Council confirmed that an integrated technical team is on site to assess the damage, work to repair it, and restore power to the affected areas as soon as possible.
More details will be provided to the public later.
