MSF Resumes Cholera Response Activities in South Khartoum

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has announced the resumption of its activities at Bashayir Hospital, south of Khartoum, to combat the increasing cholera cases, after a five-month hiatus.

The organization suspended its work at Bashayir Hospital on January 10 in protest against the increase in armed attacks on medical personnel and patients while the area was under militia control, before the army recaptured it in late March.

MSF said, in a statement received by Sudan Tribune on Saturday, that its team has resumed its activities and helped meet the growing medical needs in partnership with the Ministry of Health at Bashayir Hospital, focusing on combating the rapidly accelerating cholera outbreak in the area.

MSF Medical Coordinator Suleiman Ammar stated that the organization’s teams at Bashayir Hospital are working to equip a 20-bed cholera treatment unit to ensure its capacity to receive patients.
