South Sudan Offers to Accept Immigrants from the US in Exchange for Lifting Sanctions on Official
Politico press reported on Wednesday that South Sudan has informed the Trump administration that it is willing to consider accepting more immigrants deported from the United States.
The report, citing informed sources and diplomatic correspondence, said the African country also urged Washington to lift sanctions on one of its senior officials.
Reuters has not yet been able to verify the report.
On July 4, the United States deported eight undocumented immigrants to South Sudan, an impoverished and conflict-ridden country, in a move approved by the Supreme Court in Washington following a lengthy legal battle.
This came after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the deportation of the immigrants to South Sudan.
