Mohammed bin Zayed’s Advisor: The war in Sudan could end today!

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) President’s diplomatic advisor, Anwar Gargash, has attacked the Sudanese government for filing a complaint against the UAE at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to defend his country’s weak position regarding the UAE’s support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, which has been substantiated by reports from the United Nations Security Council experts and international news agencies.

Gargash described the Sudanese government’s move as a “political game” and an attempt to drag his country into the conflict, he claimed.

In an opinion piece published in the international edition of the Emirati newspaper The National, Gargash said, “The Sudanese government’s actions before the ICJ are nothing but a political game and a propaganda ploy. They are an attempt to drag a dear friend of Sudan and Africa into the conflict that it itself has fueled.”

Gargash noted that Sudan’s complaint follows a similar move before the UN Security Council, which he claimed was “built on fabrications and myths.”

Gargash emphasized that the UAE has had close relations with Sudan for more than five decades, and that the two countries share deep commercial, cultural, and friendship ties.

The advisor to Mohammed bin Zayed said that the path is clear: if the Sudanese government truly seeks peace, it must come to the negotiating table, which has already been extended through the Jeddah Declaration and other initiatives.

He added, “This war can end today if the Sudanese government and the Rapid Support Forces agree to disengage and accept the repeated dialogue offers made by the international community and trusted partners.”

On March 14, Sudan’s UN Ambassador Al-Harith Idris told the Security Council that the war in Sudan will not end until the UAE stops its support for the Rapid Support Forces, adding, “The UAE is guilty, and it is shedding the blood of Sudanese people and killing them in order to control Sudan’s wealth.”

Ambassador Al-Harith explained, during his speech to the Security Council that, “the war will only end when the UAE stops its support.”

Last December, a New York Times reporter, citing a US official, revealed that the UAE had conveyed to the White House that it would cease transferring weapons to the Rapid Support Forces militia. This marks the UAE’s first admission, despite its previous denials of supplying weapons to the rebels.
