Minister of Agriculture: In figures, Sudan will not starve
Acting Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Abu Bakr Omar Al-Bushra, confirmed that the natural capabilities available to Sudan prevent any famine in the country, pointing out that the parties and organizations promoting the occurrence of famine are working to serve an international agenda that supports the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
Minister of Agriculture refuted, in the weekly briefing of the Ministry of Culture and Information, which is organized by the Sudan News Agency on food security situation in the country in Portsudan today, reports promoting famine in Sudan, explaining in figures that Sudan will not starve with the agricultural capabilities and natural opportunities available.
He said that Sudan has about (172) million acres suitable for agriculture and may reach (200) million acres, adding that the quantities of available water amount to (18) million cubic meters of Nile water and (7) billion cubic meters of seasonal river and creek water, stressing that the area planted during the summer season amounts to 39 million acres.
The Minister of Agriculture said that the harvest was celebrated in early November in Kassala State. He revealed that the expected production for the summer season ranges between 6 and 7 million tons of crops and grains, stressing that this expected percentage is greater than the country’s actual need for food, crops and grains, which refutes the famine myth.
The Minister of Agriculture refuted the allegations that Sudan is experiencing famine, pointing out that the most important determinants by which famine is measured are malnutrition rates, indicating that all the parties that spoke about famine in Sudan did not collect data or conduct studies on malnutrition in the country and based their talk on political motives.
The Minister of Agriculture spoke about the government’s reservations about the report of the International Committee for the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), indicating that the organization is not transparent and works to serve an agenda against Sudan in its work, which led to the dispensing with its services and Sudan’s withdrawal from its membership.
