Minawi: Army did not inform Joint Force of troops’ evacuation from Khartoum
The supervisor of the Joint Force and Head of the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Arko Minawi, said on Sunday that the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and the army command had not informed them of any decisions to evacuate the capital of armed organizations and groups.
President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander of the Army, Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, has formed a committee to prepare the appropriate environment for the return of citizens to Khartoum State, headed by TSC Member Ibrahim Jabir. Its tasks include evacuating Khartoum State of combat forces and armed entities within two weeks, as of July 18.
Minawi told Sudan Tribune that he “read the decision to evacuate combat forces from Khartoum in the media, but there has been no official or unofficial communication in this regard.”
He pointed out that the Joint Force elements in Khartoum State number approximately three battalions.
Citizens in Omdurman have been complaining about the increase in armed robberies, with two people killed in less than two weeks during ransacking operation, while a third was injured.
Khartoum State Police have begun security campaigns to confiscate unlicensed motorcycles and weapons, among other measures to restore security and prepare the ground for the return of displaced persons to their homes.
