Driver and Bodyguards of Hemedti Detained After Road Incident in Nyala

The commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), was involved in a road incident in the city of Nyala following his return from a visit to Al-Shartai Ibrahim Abdullah Mohamed, one of the most prominent traditional leadership figures of the Fur tribe.

According to informed sources, the incident occurred after a sudden tire explosion on the vehicle carrying Hemedti, coupled with an unexpected engine malfunction, which led to confusion within the convoy and a collision involving several accompanying vehicles. The sources added that an RSF unit swiftly detained the driver and several members of the security detail immediately after the incident, in a move reflecting heightened concern within the security circle surrounding the leadership, amid indications that urgent investigations have been launched to determine the circumstances of what occurred.
