Kenyan pilot killed in airstrike on Nyala Airport

A Kenyan pilot was killed in an airstrike carried out by the Sudanese army on Nyala International Airport in South Darfur, according to a report in the Kenyan newspaper, The Standard, in its Tuesday issue. Citing witnesses who spoke to Sudanese media, including the Sudan Tribune, the newspaper reported that the targeted aircraft was being used to transport military supplies to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. It landed and took off several times before being bombed after its final landing.

Reports confirmed that the airstrip previously used by UNAMID was hit, resulting in deaths and injuries, a number of whom were transferred to Nyala Teaching Hospital.

The newspaper stated that sources close to the pilot’s family reported that he was operating secret transport operations through Chad towards Darfur. The Kenyan government and its Ministry of Foreign Affairs have not issued any official comment.
