Juba Rejects Israeli Request to Resettle Palestinians in South Sudan
The South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Wednesday denying news reports circulating about talks between Juba and Tel Aviv to resettle Palestinians to the African country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan strongly denies recent media reports alleging that the Government of the Republic of South Sudan is in talks with the State of Israel regarding the resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza in South Sudan.
The statement added that “these allegations are baseless and do not reflect the official position or policy of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan.”
The statement concluded, “Therefore, the Ministry urges all media outlets to exercise due diligence and verify information through official channels before publishing it.”
The Associated Press (AP) published a report on Tuesday revealing discussions between Israel and South Sudan regarding the possibility of resettling Palestinians from the Gaza Strip in the East African country.
The AP stated that the reports were based on six people familiar with the matter who confirmed the talks took place, adding that it was unclear how far the talks had progressed.
