In an update seen by the organization, it stated that “49,800 Sudanese returned from Egypt during April, more than double the number of returnees during the previous month (20,216).”
It noted that the number of returnees during the previous year reached 42,418, while approximately 122,912 returned during the first quarter of this year, bringing the total number of Sudanese returning from Egypt to 165,330.
The organization pointed out that the majority of returnees from Egypt came from Khartoum, accounting for 71%, followed by Al-Gezira, at 22%, while the remainder came from various states.
IOM explained that 135,308 individuals, representing 82% of the total returnees, returned from Egypt to Sudan via the Ashkeit crossing, while the remaining 30,022 people preferred to return via the Argeen crossing.
The IOM expects hundreds of thousands of people to return from Egypt to Sudan over the next six months, if current return trends continue.
