International mission to investigate war violations in Sudan

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights revealed that arrangements are underway to send an international mission consisting of the African Union and the United Nations to investigate the violations that occurred during the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia since mid-April 2023.
The Head of the Fact-finding Mission on Sudan, Hatem Al-Saim, pointed out that the mission will work to investigate serious human rights violations and violations of humanitarian law since the beginning of the conflict, adding that the mission will seek full access to the areas where the violations occurred to collect testimonies and evidence that will help hold those responsible for these crimes accountable.
Al-Saim stressed the necessity to allow the mission access to those areas in order to carry out its mission effectively, stressing the importance of these efforts to document the violations and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
