For the first time since the war eruption, a civilian plane lands at Khartoum Airport

A Sudanese security source confirmed to Al Jazeera that a civilian plane landed at Khartoum International Airport for the first time since the outbreak of the war in mid-April 2023. This move carries symbolic and practical significance for the security and humanitarian situation.

Since the outbreak of the war between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, the airport has remained closed to civilian air traffic, isolating the capital, Khartoum, from the outside world and leading to a complete paralysis of travel and trade. The plane’s landing is an indication that the airport may gradually return to service, albeit on a limited basis, under strict security arrangements.
