The South Belt Emergency Chamber, south of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, announced on Thursday the death of 12 children due to malnutrition, with the number of cases of this disease among children increasing to 3,511 cases in November.
The South Belt zone includes the neighborhoods of “Al-Inqaz, Al-Azhari, Al-Salama, and Mayo,” and has been under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia since the first days of the outbreak of the war in mid-April 2023, as these neighborhoods witnessed military operations between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and RSF.
A member of the South Belt Emergency Chamber told “Sudan Tribune” that the medical office received reports of the death of 12 children, while the number of cases of malnutrition in the area reached 3,611.
The member, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed that cholera cases increased to 80 cases, including 4 deaths during November.
